VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Islanders’ Hall of Fame has reopened for business.

The announcement last Friday that Brent Sutter officially will be inducted on Jan. 18, with the Isles also set to unveil a Ring of Honor at UBS Arena featuring the entire membership of the franchise Hall of Fame, was a welcome development.

Not because the Islanders don’t do enough celebrating of their history — if you’ve attended a game at UBS, you know the Dynasty is still a prominent part of just about everything they do there — but because there are too many prominent names from the club’s past that deserve honoring.

The current group of players, coaches and executives in the Hall of Fame includes Denis Potvin, Billy Smith, Clark Gillies, Bill Torrey, Bob Bourne, Ken Morrow, Kenny Jonsson, Butch Goring, Mike Bossy, Bob Nystrom, Al Arbour, Bryan Trottier, Ed Westfall, Patrick Flatley, John Tonelli and Sutter.
