The Honda Civic Type R has received a price increase of nearly $5000, with minimal changes apart from a bold new colour and an optional accessory.

Now starting from $79,000 drive-away – up by $4900 – the Civic Type R will be available in Australia from tomorrow. According to car.news, while Honda hasn’t disclosed how many units will make up the 2025 production run, it confirmed that priority will go to customers who registered their interest online.

A new Racing Blue shade joins the palette alongside Championship White, Crystal Black, and Sonic Grey. Buyers can also opt for a carbon-fibre rear spoiler priced at $5300. No other specification changes have been introduced for this model year.

Power still comes from a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 235kW and 420Nm, paired with a six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching.

As with other Hondas, the Civic Type R is backed by a five-year unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of capped-price servicing, with each service priced at just $199.

Standard features include:

  • Adaptive dampers
  • Brembo brakes
  • Active exhaust
  • LED headlights with auto high-beam
  • Wireless phone charging
  • 9.0-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist

The higher price tag now places the Civic Type R above rivals such as the Toyota GR Corolla ($67,990 before on-roads) and Volkswagen Golf R ($70,990 before on-roads).

However, availability has always been tight. The Civic Type R has consistently arrived in limited numbers, and as recently as early 2023, it was sold out for 20 months. Orders for the current generation first opened on December 1, 2022, with the earliest customer deliveries taking place in early 2023.

According to car.news, the Civic Type R remains one of the most desirable hot hatches in Australia – even at its steeper price point, the mix of performance, design, and exclusivity keeps demand strong.
