Ministry of Digital Development and Transport started transformation of broadcasting services to energy saver and high-quality digital technologies from 2004, first DVB-T standard digital TV broadcasting was launched in Baku.

In 2016 the country was covered with digital TV broadcasting with DVB-T standard and analog broadcasting of TV programs was terminated.

AM radio broadcasting transmitters, with high output power 150 -500 kWt, with low efficiency and low transmission quality (due to narrow bandwidth and interference from atmospheric and industrial noise), were replaced with FM and digital DAB+ standard transmitters. AM radio broadcasting terminated 2019.

Most important result of this transforming was that yearly energy consumption for radio broadcasting was dramatically reduced (14 times from 53.3 MWt/h to 3.7 MWt/h). Related carbon emission reduced 17.4 kton (from 18.7 to 1.3 kton). Transform of TV broadcasting saved another 2.2 kton.

Transform allowed reduction of energy consumption and access of population to many of high-quality radio and TV programs.

In 2024 number of and DVB-T2 multiplexers reached 20. It is planned at next upcoming years to replace all remaining DVB-T transmitters with DVB-T2 and cover full country with DAB+ radio broadcasting with terminating of FM broadcasting.
