Hawks-Mavericks pick
The Dallas Mavericks are in a race to avoid the Western Conference play-in bracket and their next challenge is a home game vs. the Atlanta Hawks tonight.
Dallas is favored by 11.5 points on BetMGM Sportsbook, and that feels a bit too high. There are lots of on-paper reasons to go with the Mavericks, but I just can’t see a 12-point win over a Hawks team that is playing well.
Atlanta has won six of its last seven games, including two wins over the Boston Celtics in that stretch. Dejounte Murray has been a solid floor general in Trae Young’s absence, and him, Jalen Johnson, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and De’Andre Hunter are each capable of dropping 20+ points on any given night.
Additionally, Luka Doncic scored 73 points against the Hawks in a 148-143 Dallas win back in January the last time these teams played, so I would expect Atlanta to have revenge on its mind and play with some extra competitive juice tonight.
There are legitimate trends against the Hawks, though. Atlanta is the worst team against the spread in the NBA (the Mavericks are second-best) and is on the second night of a back-to-back after playing Detroit last night. Those are real things to consider, I just think Dallas is a bit too big of a favorite.
Doncic is fully capable of another ridiculous offensive performance, but he did that the last time these teams played and the Mavericks only won by five points.
