Trevor Bauer’s Mexican League contract has wrinkle for MLB deal

Trevor Bauer has a five-game contract with the Mexico City Diablo Rojos with an out if an MLB team signs him. He’s eligible, but no team has been willing to take the PR hit that comes with signing the player with the longest domestic violence ban.

“There is no doubt he remains one of the best starting pitchers in baseball, and with our contract parameters he is both available and affordable to any MLB that wants to upgrade their starting pitching,” Bauer’s agent Jon Fetterolf said.

Bauer’s offer: MLB minimum plus incentives.

The Astros never got especially close to signing Blake Snell. They never were going to match the $31 million salary the Giants paid. Snell on Wednesday threw a 75-pitch simulated game, with velocity in the 95-97 mph range. The Giants’ rotation looks outstanding, especially with Jordan Hicks looking “nasty” in the words of one pitching expert.

There’s nothing close with the Astros and Alex Bregman, who will hit free agency. The belief is Houston, true to its history, would like to keep things in the five- or six-year range.

Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said on The Post’s podcast “The Show” he could see Jordan Montgomery — who signed for $25M plus vesting option and opt-out — get into action by mid-April, with Eduardo Rodriguez not too behind. At full strength, few rotations are better 1 through 5.

The Yankees’ idea was to give Monty $72M for four years with $10M deferred a year until 2034-41, paid out at $5M per year. My deferral guru pegged that value as $11.5M a year.
