Jordan Spieth added something new to golf on Saturday: a gutter ball.
It was part of his disastrous final hole on Saturday in the third round of the Valero Texas Open — and it came just two days after he hit a hole in one in the same tournament.
The ace became a distant memory for Spieth, though, after he double-bogeyed the 18th hole Saturday in spectacular fashion.
The bizarre series of events included Spieth hitting the ball into a gutter.

On the par-5 18th hole Saturday, Spieth hooked his 354-yard drive and it ended up behind a tree and close to some rocks.
He followed that up by inadvertently hitting a branch with his club on his second shot, which caused the ball to find its way to a drainage ditch.
That’s when things got very interesting.
Not afraid of adventurous — and risky — play, Spieth then clearly decided to do something perhaps only he would do.
Because of the awkward placement of the ball, Spieth’s best chance to get back on the fairway was to try to hit his third shot onto the top of the clubhouse at TPC San Antonio.
If he succeeded, he would be able to take a drop from there, since the clubhouse was considered an immovable obstruction and the nearby scoreboard was considered a temporary immovable obstruction.
He succeeded, and the ball ended up in the gutter.
Spieth was able to take a drop that resulted in him being just over 100 yards from the green, with a chance to save par.
He was able to get his fourth shot just 54 feet from the hole.
But, fittingly, things only got worse for Spieth from there, as he three-putted for a seven, which put him at 3-under for the tournament.
He finished the round tied for 17th, a dozen shots back of leader Akshay Bhatia, and shot a 3-under Sunday in the final round to finish at 6-under.
